Coxmate USA is the North American distributor for Coxmate advanced electronic rowing products from Australia. Coxmate was founded in 2002 by Peter Hodson, an electrical systems engineer with experience in defense systems as well as theatre lighting and sound. Soon after Peter became the electronics repairman for his daughter's rowing club in Adelaide, South Australia, he eventually became one of Australia's foremost experts in repairing Nielsen Kellerman® CoxBoxes™ and such.

Peter decided to dive into making his own coxswain electronics once he decided that new technologies and processes could make it possible to produce a more powerful, longer-lived product with greater features. It could also be easier to maintain and cheaper to buy. He also realised, though, that the predominance of Nielsen Kellerman products in the rowing market meant that the units would have to be compatible and interchangeable in as many ways as possible. Coxmate units plug into NK harnesses and vice versa. Your program can alternate at will between the use of NK units and Coxmate units in the same boats. Only microphones and charging units are brand specific.

Greg Doyle became the North American agent for Coxmate in 2006, recognizing that the versatility of the Coxmate products would have significant appeal to cost-conscious and independent-minded coaches and rowers. In particular, Greg was impressed by the outstanding compatibility of the Coxmate products with the existing NK products in the marketplace. Coxmate USA now supplies these electronic units and harnesses directly to North American customers and boatbuilders. Greg is also one of the North American agents for Croker Oars from Australia.

The Coxmate AA is the most basic and cheapest unit. It is lightweight, durable, and very easy to use. And while we recommend it for crews that are not particularly concerned with stroke rating and other features, it is also ideal for boats that are already wired with speed and stroke sensors units.
We highly recommend this unit for programs that utilize the Coxmate HC or the NK Speedcoach. Since those small units already capture stroke rate and boat speed, the only component needed thereafter is the audio amplification. An audio-only unit allows for more effective management of battery resources, and guards against the "all eggs in one basket" failure of an audio/rate combination unit.

It also helps with passing units down through the hierarchy of a program. You need not pass down complicated speed and rate instruments to crews unlikely to benefit from them. The varsity crews can keep the higher-order speed and drag analysis units, the novices can keep simpler stroke rate units, and the audio-only AA unit can solve the voice amplification for both needs regardless.

The Coxmate SRT is the newest version of the most popular product in the Coxmate line. It combines voice amplification with stroke rate reading and stop-watch features. Secondary features include a battery level monitor, a metronome, and more than 30 minutes of memory recall. A unique magnetic mounting system simplifies usage in the boat. This does away with the daily (or more) operation of the 4 pin rubber connector. Simply install the magnetic receiver and connect the cable once, then place and remove the unit on the magnetic connectors as needed. You may also use the optional cylindrical boat well adapter, which allows you to wedge the mounting plate securely in the boat well found on most larger rowing shells. The SRT is also available with a non-magnetic base, connecting to the boat harness in traditional fashion. Also updated is the microphone connection, which has been upgraded from a waterproof fixed junction to a waterproof jack and plug.

The Coxmate SC is simply the most advanced piece of rowing electronics in production. Not only does it handle all of the sensoring functions of stroke and speed, but its software package opens a new world of analysis that will allow you to graph and chart speed during the course of each individual stroke.
